The Victorian Trainee playing season came to a close on Monday 28th November at the Portsea Trainee Pro-Am with Latrobe Golf Club’s Toby Wilcox firing a six-under 65 for the outright win.
Wilcox, who recently won the Mt Xavier Pro-Am was very happy with his win. Thanks to the Portsea Golf Club Wilcox receives the added bonus of a start in the $30,000 Swisse Portsea Pro-Am on Monday 2nd January.
“The course was in fantastic condition. Thanks to the Portsea Golf Club, all of the event sponsors including the new major sponsor Swisse, and to those that support the PGA Trainees including CPM, Acushnet and Industrial Workforce. I’m grateful for the opportunity and am very much looking forward to playing in the upcoming Pro-Am,” said Wilcox.
One shot behind Wilcox was Brock Gillard who secured second place with an impressive 66. A further shot back and tied for third were Rick Warren and Jack Wilson with great scores of 67.
A total of 52 Trainees played alongside the Portsea Pro-Am sponsors in the compulsory final round with everybody having a fantastic time enjoying near perfect weather conditions.
“We always look forward to this final event on the schedule and the opportunity to play at Portsea Golf Club. I’d like to thank Swisse and all of the other Pro-Am sponsors for making the event possible. I would also like to say congratulations and wish good luck to my fellow third year Trainees that have now successfully completed their Traineeship,” said third year Trainee Captain, Tim Hewitt.
Jack Wilson - 2011 VIC OOM Winner
This being the final event it was also the decider of the 2011 Victorian Trainee Order of Merit Winner. With three players in contention heading into the final round it was Jack Wilson who showed his talent with a score of 67 to take out the Order of Merit by two points from Matt Buff and five points from Ben Ford. Interesting to note that Wilson was not only able to win the trophy but managed to do so in fewer events than both Ford and Buff.
“Thanks to all the Sponsors, Trainees, Golf Clubs, Club Members, PGA Members and PGA staff that have assisted by making the events possible and I am very happy to be the Victorian Trainee Order of Merit winner,” Said Wilson.
