Kacey Heywood
Local Rich River Trainee, Kacey Heywood, in action during the second round of the 2012 Rich River Trainee Classic

Trainees representing three different states share the lead after thirty-six holes at the 2012 Rich River Trainee Classic. West Australian Trainee Toby Price equaled the best score of the day, with his five-under par sixty-seven taking him to a share of the lead with third year Trainee Quinton Howe and rookie Trainee professional, Richie Gallichan. All three now enter tomorrow’s third round at four-under at the half-way stage of the tournament.

Price’s error free round showed his potential, with five birdies and no bogeys recorded on his card. The third-year Trainee from Mandurah Country Club will be looking to continue his good form over the final two days and will be aiming to take the maximum share of the $30 000 prize-money back across the Nullabor.

Experienced Victorian campaigner Howe will be seeking to improve on today’s even par seventy-two in his last chance to capture the Rich River Classic as a third-year Trainee. Gallichan, from the Manly Golf Club has impressed in his first four-round professional event, following up his first round score of seventy with another round of two-under.

Equaling Price’s best round of the day was Victorian Trainee Brendan Rowse, who also carded a five-under score of sixty-seven. With the Rich River Classic also welcoming female Trainee professionals, two rookie Trainees impressed, with Elissa Orr carding a two-under score of seventy and Murray Downs Golf Club’s Sienna Lambert recording a one-under seventy-one.

The cut for the tournament was made a eight-over par after two days of blustery conditions at the Rich River resort, with fifty-one Trainee golf professionals looking to make their move before Friday’s final round.
