Oh so close (again) for Senior
Monday, 13 February 2012
Peter Senior notched up his fifth second place finish in a US Champions Tour event, falling to Corey Pavin who birdied the first playoff hole to take the Allianz Championship title.
In claiming his first Champions win, Pavin sunk a 12-foot birdie putt to defeat Senior.
In what were no doubt gut wrenching circumstances for the Aussie, the second place finish also marked the third time Senior has fallen in a playoff on Tour.
Still yet to win a US Senior title, he lost in playoffs at last year’s Regions Tradition to Tom Lehman and was one of four players in a playoff at the Songdo IBD Championship which was won by Jay Don Blake.
On their way to a podium finish, both Pavin and Senior had to take advantage of Mark Calcavecchia's back nine misfortunes.
Calcavecchia was leading by three strokes following a birdie at No. 11, but proceeded to bogey six of the next seven holes to fall out of contention and give away the title.
For his efforts, Senior took home US $158,400 in his first appearance on the Champions Tour in 2012.
Last year he finished 7th on the overall moneylist with US$1,434,119 in earnings.
