25 Trainees descended on the Mansfield Golf Club on Monday 7th November for the 2011 Mansfield Trainee Pro-Am.

First year Trainee and 2011 CPM Southern PGA Trainee Champion Ben Ford dominated the 36 hole event winning by five shots with scores of 65 and 68 totalling nine-under 133.

Ford has shown great form all year finishing with a number of top ten Trainee event finishes including second place in the prestigious four round Rich River Classic held in January.

The morning round was restricted to Trainees and thanks to special efforts from the Club they were treated to a warm Bacon and Egg breakfast to kick start the day.

Ben Ford from Medway Golf Club set his sights early on winning the event firing a course record 65 which included a total of eight birdies, eight pars and two bogeys.

“It was a great round to watch and it was amazing that Ben actually left a few out there,” said playing partner Tim Hewitt.

The amateurs joined the Trainees to test their skills after lunch in an afternoon of golf that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Ford once again starred with five birdies and a score of three-under 68 to seal the win.

The lowest round in the afternoon belonged to Dan Robertson from Keysborough Golf Club who was able to find something extra in the tank to shoot an impressive four-under 67.

“The day went really well and the Trainees did a great job. They were very polite and extremely well mannered which made for a very pleasant day for all participants,” said Alison Munt - Head Professional, Mansfield GC.

“We were all really well looked after and we all really enjoyed the day and look forward to next year’s event,” said Rick warren.

The next Trainee Pro-Am is the final event of the year and is being held once again at Portsea Golf Club on Monday 28th November.
